Needle Valve Maintenance Mistakes
When a needle valve leaks or sticks, many maintenance workers rush to “take it apart and clean it”. But improper disassembly can do more harm than good. Here are three common mistakes. The main Needle Valve product names of China Needle Valve Network include:JJ•BY1 Single Flange Pressure-taking Needle Valve,J61Y/W High Temperature and Pressure Needle Valve,JX49W/H Level Gauge Valve,JX29W/H Thread Level Gauge Valve,J13 Internal Thread Needle Valve,J21/23 Type External Thread Needle Valve,J29 Angle Pressure Gage Needle Valve,J49 Flange Pressure Gage Needle Valve
Mistake 1: Disassembling without marking
The cone and seat are lapped as a matched pair. Removing them without marking means they may not seal when reassembled. Always mark the valve body and cone before disassembly.
Mistake 2: Using sandpaper on the cone
Some use sandpaper to polish scratches. The abrasive grit embeds into the metal, then wears the seat faster. Use lapping compound sparingly and clean thoroughly after lapping.
Mistake 3: Not cleaning the packing cavity
Old packing fragments and debris left in the cavity prevent new packing from sealing. Always clean the cavity and stem surface before installing new packing (install in layers).
Bottom line: Needle valve maintenance is simple, but marking, lapping, and cleaning the packing cavity are essential. Skip them and the valve will fail quickly
