1
Needle VALVESPark your vehicle in a safe location on even ground. Engage the parking brake to prevent the vehicle from rolling when you are replacing the refrigerant valve. Open the hood. Locate the AC compressor in the hood area. Identify the compressor as a metallic-colored cylinder that closely resembles a fire extinguisher.
-
2
The compressor is connected to two refrigerant hoses. The low-side refrigerant hose runs from the compressor to the accumulator. The high-side refrigerant hose runs from the compressor to the condenser. Distinguish the low-side hose from the high-side hose.
-
3
Inspect the low-side and high-side refrigerant hoses for a refrigerant valve. The low-side refrigerant valve is attached to the low-side hose. The high-side valve is attached to the high-side hose.
-
4
Grab the low-side valve with your fingers and pull it firmly to disconnect the valve from the hose. Use a pair of needle-nose pliers if you cannot disconnect the valve with just your fingers. Remove the high-side valve as well. Discard both refrigerant valves.
-
5
Inspect the replacement refrigerant valves for visual signs of damage. Ensure that both new valves have an intact O-ring. Apply a small amount of refrigerant oil to the O-rings of the refrigerant valves to provide a little lubrication.
-
6
Align the low-side refrigerant valve with the low-side hose. Press down on the valve until you hear a small audible click. Repeat this process for the high-side valve and the high-side hose.
