float valve kit - needle & seat 01 400
That is pretty much the extent of replacing the float needle. Just be
careful not to bend the float or the little tab that presses against the
float needle. That would alter the float fuel height setting. (The
float is actually tougher then I make it sound so shouldn't be a problem
with a bit of common sense)
Removing the carburetor can be a pain. However many times you can access
the float bowl just be rotating the carburetor 90 degrees, watching for
tangles in throttle cable or other hoses connected to the carburetor.
The screw head Phillips slots often strip out, requiring additional work
such as cutting new slots with a dremel tool or needle valve nose vice grips
to remove the old screws. the screws are easily replaced with Allen head
hex screws from your local hardware store. They are metric.
90% of the time it is a bit of crud from the fuel tank or rubber from
the inside of a deteriorating fuel line that gets caught in the float
needle that causes the problems you're having. Good idea to install a
fuel filter and replace the gas line tubing at the same time to help
prevent future problems. Some even remove and clean out the inside of
the fuel tank as well for additional security.
